I was born in Wichita, KS and attended Kansas State University for my BA in Anthropology, French and American Ethnic Studies. I received both my MA and PhD at American University in Washington, DC. My thesis focused on perfectionism and mood disorders. My dissertation was on body image concerns among women in rural Papua New Guinea.
I am the mother of three boys by birth and one bonus daughter who lives in Minnesota with her husband. My husband, Michael Wesch, is a Cultural Anthropologist who studies media and religion. In my free time, I like to travel, learn languages and garden.
